Skaters of all levels* age 18+ who are looking for a fun and inclusive performance opportunity! You must have a valid Skate Canada number to participate.
*We do have a required minimum skill level, please reference this video for examples of our past ensemble numbers.
Our pop-up workshops and shows typically run over a weekend for one evening and 2 full days, including the day of performance. On occasion there will be an option to participate in an additional rehearsal/training half day. Check our Events page for more information and if it's offered for our upcoming show.
New in 2024 — participants will be encouraged to participate in 3 pre-show character development classes via Zoom to help create a cohesive and engaging storyline for the show! Dungeons and Dragons character sheets anyone?
Every year we have an early bird registration price with optional add-ons, but the base price is typically $349 for the weekend (check our Events page for more up-to-date information).
This includes delicious and nutritious meals provided during rehearsal and performance days (organized by Cathy Thoms), one-on-one and group technical and performance coaching from our experts Kate McCall and Sara Knowles, as well as choreography.
Yes! We encourage skaters to bring their own solos, duets, or small group numbers (5 people max) to our pop-up shows. Every registrant will participate in our opening and closing numbers, as well as during theatrical transitions between numbers, bringing your own piece to perform is optional.
We do encourage all participants to ideate their own character for the show, even if you're just wanting to do the ensemble numbers. This helps us develop a cohesive storyline, and allows skaters to indulge in their creative sides. Does your character have a hidden agenda? Do they have a secret tortured past with another skater on the ice? Let your inspired or tortured imaginations soar!
We currently run one pop-up show a year in Calgary, Alberta, but we hope to expand our reach to give adult skaters performance opportunities across the country!
Your favourite pair of figure skates and a black base layer that can be dressed up for the ensemble numbers. This can be a black skirt, black pants or tights, it's up to you. Beige tights can also be worn if preferred.
